Dr. Şebnem Kalemli-Özcan

Dr. Şebnem Kalemli-Özcan is the William R. Rhodes '57 Professor of International Economics and the Schreiber Family Professor of Economics at Brown University, where she directs the Global Linkages Lab and the William R. Rhodes Center for International Economics and Finance. She is a Research Associate at the National Bureau of Economic Research and a Research Fellow at the Centre for Economic Policy Research.

She is co-editor of the American Economic Journal: Macroeconomics and managing editor of Economic Policy: Papers on European and Global Issues, and she serves on the economic advisory panels of the Federal Reserve Bank of New York and the Bank for International Settlements.

She previously held the Duisenberg Fellowship at the European Central Bank and the Houblon-Norman Fellowship at the Bank of England, served as Lead Economist for the Middle East and North Africa at the World Bank, and was Senior Policy Advisor to IMF Chief Economist Gita Gopinath. She is an elected member of the Council on Foreign Relations, where she was also an International Affairs Fellow. In 2008 she became the first Turkish-American social scientist to win the Marie Curie IRG prize, awarded for research that helps reverse the brain drain from the United States, in her case for work on European financial integration.

Her research examines how global trade and capital flows shape macroeconomic fluctuations and economic growth.
